Phase One: Knowledge Development
This initial phase encompasses the theoretical aspect of the PADI Open Water Diver Course. With PADI eLearning® set your own pace and complete your studies at home or any location of your choice.

Phase Two: Confined Water Skills
The confined water segment marks your introduction to underwater breathing. Here, you’ll practice using scuba gear in a pool or a pool-like setting with an instructor until you reach a level of comfort. Throughout these sessions, you’ll systematically learn fundamental skills, such as mask clearing or ascending, in a progressive manner. PADI training incorporates “mini dives” during confined water sessions, facilitating the development of confidence in your newfound abilities and enabling you to apply skills across various scenarios.
Phase Three: Open Water Dives
The eagerly anticipated open water phase comprises four dives conducted in unrestricted water under the guidance of your instructor. These dives can take place with our experienced instructor in Sun Diving Unawatuna!
PADI Open Water Diver certification represents the initial level of scuba certification that grants you the ability to dive independently, accompanied by a buddy but without the presence of an Instructor or other scuba diving professional. Under the guidance of a highly-trained PADI Instructor, you will learn to scuba dive in a supportive and relaxed learning environment.
PADI Open Water Diver Course Referral General informtion:
- Prerequisites: Able to swim; medically fit for diving
- Total time commitment: 2 days
- Minimum age: 10 years or older
- Depth: expect shallow dives (12m/40ft), the maximum allowed depth is 18m/60ft
